One of the world’s largest art and cultural areas is located in the middle of Vienna’s city center. The MuseumsQuartier — simply MQ for short — is packed with fine art, historical and modern architecture, dance and theatre, literature, design, children’s culture and photographs. Courtyards,
buildings, shops, museums and cafés cover 90,000
m² and offer visitors everything that makes a cultural heart beat faster. And the Siemens building technology experts have added what a security heart desires and installed the SiControl management system to centrally manage all security disciplines. SiControl makes the day-to-day work of operators and security personnel on site easier: With two operating stations and 6,300 data points, MQ employees have an overview of everything. Both via web access and via a mobile app. The installed fire alarm system can also be operated via the control station. The challenge for Siemens experts when installing the system? Visitors to the Leopold Museum and the mumok were not allowed to be disturbed and should be able to enjoy the works of Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and the many other artists without interruptions and noise. For this purpose, all fire detectors were replaced first and then the fire alarm control panels were gradually replaced. Because visitors shouldn’t be disturbed, but of course they should still be protected every second. Following successful modernization, eleven fire alarm control panels, 400 handheld fire detectors, 2,500 smoke detectors, 67 smoke extraction systems and many other components now provide optimal protection for people, buildings and works of art.
