The aim of the new regulations is to make the CO2 phase-out an engine of growth. This should be achieved, for example, by providing particularly energy-intensive industries with support in their efforts to create affordable energy. Another lever is the area of clean tech companies, which faces a wide variety of challenges but is crucial for future competitiveness. Secured financing, promoting a circular economy, joint procurement of raw materials and the development of global partnerships should pave the way to a climate-neutral, resilient and competitive industry.

The EU is making a significant contribution to reducing bureaucracy with the so-called Omnibus Package
“The regulations on reporting requirements with regard to sustainability goals are being relaxed,” says Siemens expert Werner Kerschbaumer. On the one hand, certain reporting requirements will be postponed by two years (from 2025 to 2027), and on the other hand, small and medium-sized companies in particular should benefit from the significantly increased thresholds, as in future only companies with more than 1,000 employees and either over 50 million euros in turnover or 25 million euros balance sheet total will fall within this regulation. This would mean that only around 20 percent of the companies affected so far would be required to report. The same applies to the EU Taxonomy Regulation: Full reporting should only be mandatory for companies with over 1,000 employees and a turnover of more than 450 million euros. Werner Kerschbaumer: “The path to climate neutrality is now associated with less bureaucracy, which strengthens SMEs in particular. However, it should be noted that the extended deadlines, the raised thresholds and the reduction of reportable data do not fundamentally change the climate goals and the climate neutrality roadmap.” In any case, this means that companies must now analyse the existing situation in order to plan and implement appropriate measures in good time.

Based on many years of expertise, Siemens supports companies with solutions relating to resource conservation and climate neutrality. This starts with consulting and analysis and continues with the introduction of monitoring, reporting and optimization solutions to the holistic implementation of energy and resource-saving measures.

“Siemens supports companies with solutions for resource conservation and climate neutrality.” Werner Kerschbaumer Business Development Smart Infrastructure Buildings, Siemens AG Austria Helping European companies compete globally — that is what the EU has set itself the goal of with the Clean Industrial Deal.
